May 30 Gladewater, TX

Today we drove back to Kilgore to visit the Kilgore Rangerettes Museum which is the world's best-known collegiate drill team. http://www.rangerette.com/ There was a 12 minute movie showing the history of the group along with some of the past performances. These young ladies travel all over the world. The drill team did their first on field performance in 1940 and have been performing ever since. Their routines are done with such precision that is incredible. If you ever have the opportunity to see them perform, or to visit the museum, it will be well worth the time.

We also went back to the "World's Richest Acre" and walked around among all the derricks.

For lunch we went to the Country Tavern just west of Kilgore. They have been around cookin' ribs since 1930. There is no menu--at least we were not offered one---the choices are ribs, brisket, or sausage & small, medium, or large. We had the small order of ribs which was more than enough. Then we bought a full rack to bring home. They were really great.

We really enjoyed our time at the Shallow Creek Golf/RV Resort http://www.shallowcreek.com/rvpark.htm . We made new friends, Bill and Jan, the park hosts for the summer. A couple that we parked near in Kerrville, TX back in March stopped for the night and we had a nice visit with them. Then, just before we left, Susan and Chris from the Foretravel owners list stopped in for the night. We had visited with them in Nacogdoches, TX at the factory. It was great to spend time with them again. They have really put the miles on the coach since we last saw them going to Tucson and back in a short time. On June 3, we move on to the next stop.
