May 24 Gladewater, TX

After leaving Kinder, we made a quick stop in Nacogdoches. While there we got to meet and visit with Chris and Susan, Foretravel owners from the owner's forum. They are a great couple and we really enjoyed visiting with them.

On Saturday, May 24 we drove to the Shallow Creek Golf and RV Resort in Gladewater, TX http://www.shallowcreek.com/rvpark.htm --it is very neat and clean as well as one of the friendlest parks that we have been in. One of the reasons we wanted to come here was so Jerry could play golf. Weather was not good for a few days, but he finally got to play. He said that the course was not the greatest. But, then, he admits that after playing on the manicured courses in the CA desert, that nothing around here would compare. We had planned on staying 2 weeks, but will probably leave on June 1 or 2--destination unknown!

We went to Kilgore to visit the East Texas Oil Museum. This fascinating museum houses the authentic re-creation of oil discovery and production in the early 1930s from the largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries. http://www.easttexasoilmuseum.com/Pages/history.html It is well worth the visit if you are ever in this area.

We also drove past "The World's Richest Acre" where there were Over 1,100 producing wells in Kilgore at the height of the boom http://www.texasescapes.com/EastTexasTowns/Kilgore-Texas.htm.
