After the 136 mile drive, we pulled into the Holiday RV Park http://www.holidayparkrv.com/ in College Station, Texas, home of Texas A & M University http://www.tamu.edu/home/aboutam/ where the NCAA Swimming competition begins on March 26th. The facilities here are fantastic! The Student Rec Center, where the competition is held is huge http://recsports.tamu.edu/facilities/student_rec_center/ . Inside the building, besides the swimming pools, there are courts for basketball, volleyball, racquetball, and who knows what else---also, an indoor jogging track, climbing wall, archery center and numerous areas with exercise equipment. Awesome is the only way to describe this place.
Of course, the reason for being here is the swimming. There were about 42 Universities represented, with the best collegiate swimmers in the country competing.
Tyler had an incredible meet, coming in 2nd place. However, he set a new NCAA record in the 200 Back Stroke.
.
.
But, his real night to shine was in the
.
400 IM where he set the NCAA, American and U.S. Open,
.
replacing Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte as record holders.
.
During all the excitement, jumping up and down, yelling and screaming, I failed to take pictures!!
Please take a minute to read this article http://www.goldmedalmel.typepad.com/ to understand what an outstanding athlete it takes to win this event.
.
We are looking forward to the Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE in 2012 where Tyler, and hopefully his sister, Lindsey (now age 13) will be competing. After that, we plan on being in London at the 2012 Olympic Competition.
