March 19-21 Kemah, TX

When time permits, we like to stay off the major highways and take the back roads. Today was no exception. We drove south through Beaumont going toward the Gulf of Mexico. We drove down Hwy 87, which is a long island. At the east end of the island, there is a ferry http://www.crystalbeach.com/greer.htm to get across to Galveston.

Since Spring Break was going on, I had trouble finding an RV Park. Nothing was availabe on Galveston Island---the closest one I could find was the Lakeside RV http://www.lakesidervparktx.com/ in Kemah. It had only been open for about a year and was very nice---but not on the Gulf as we had hoped.

So, on Friday, we went to Galveston and drove the length of the island--crossed the toll bridge on the other. We had hoped to take the coach that way, but glad that we did not because the toll booth was so narrow that we probably would have done some damage to the coach!
